All Soap, even liquid soap is made with either lye or a form of lye.
Lye is what causes the saponification of the oils into soap.
All of the lye is used up in the saponification process. No lye is left in the soap.
Grandma's Lye Soap is a mild and in many cases milder than many name brand soap.
Name Brand soap ingredients may include detergents, chemicals, preservatives or fragrance which may cause skin problems.
Many brands of soap today have much of the natural glycerin removed in the manufacturing process. This glycerin is then resold for additional profit by major manufacturers.
Detergent cleans well, but is very drying to the skin. This is why many of the manufactured soap today can cause dry and sometimes itchy skin, especially in winter time.
For poison ivy and oak rash, most people say to wash as soon after exposure as possible. Wash and rinse the irritated portion at least three times per day. After rinsing, place soap lather on the rash and leave it on until the next washing.
