    Description

    Here you have an amazing 5 piece set of Northwood Custard Glass in the Chrysanthemum Sprig Pattern.
    These ornate pieces are gracefully shaped and have scalloped top and bottom edges.  A green and pink molded
    swag frames the chrysanthemum sprig, which is in gold foil overlay.  The piecrust tops are gold tipped.
    Custard
    glass
    is a creamy pale yellow opaque glass
    (mostly pressed) made primarily in America, ca. 1895-1910.
    The leading company was
    Northwood.
    The 5 pieces and approximate sizes are;
    1.  Lidded Butter Dish   7"H x 7 1/2"W  Northwood in script on base
    2.  Jelly Compote   4 3/4"H x 4 1/2"W
    3.  Creamer   4 1/4"H x 5 1/2" W (handle to spout) x 3 1/2"W (side to side) Northwood in script on base
    4.  Lidded Sugar    6"H x 4 1/2" W
    5.  Spooner    4"H x 3 3/4" W Northwood in script on base.  In Victorian times the frugal homemaker did not set a spoon at each placesetting.  Rather the spoons were placed in a "spooner" and set on the table for use if needed.
    The best and easiest test to assure a piece is genuine is the "fire" test.  Virtually without exception every old piece of custard glass shows at least some fiery red opalescence when held to the light.  I have attempted to show you this in the pictures.
