    Description

    Sphalerite fluorescent mineral, Sterling Hill Mine, near Franklin NJ.  Hand-sized specimen, a band / face of yellow mahogany sphalerite in calcite / willemite / franklinite ore, that shows a bit of serpentine slip-surface on the sphalerite.  Fluoresces green, orange, and blue-white in shortwave UV light; bright orange, blue, and green in longwave UV.  I’ve included a photo showing the response to a longwave UV LED flashlight, brighter and more blue.


    Cabinet specimen, measures 4 1/2 inches x 3 x 2 3/4 inches, and weighs 2 pounds 11 ounces.
